P= (2 x l) + (2 x w) where l is the length and w is the width.  They will also know that they can measure area by counting unit squares, and by using the formula A = l x w.  They will also understand that they may solve some problems by solving a simpler form of the original problem..

Spelling - The students will be working with words that have final sounds with r, l, al.  They will be responsible for pages 237-239 in volume 1.

Reading - We will begin a novel study of the book Love that  Dog, by Sharon Creech. Love that Dog is a free verse piece written diary format. It is written from the perspective of a young boy who resists poetry assignments from his teacher. Throughout his journey, he learns to appreciate, and to even enjoy the art of poetry. As we read this book, we will continue to examine the literary elements.

The students will write their own poems using the poetic forms and elements that they will be learning about and have learned.

English - This week the students will combine pronouns and verbs to write contractions.  They will also distinguish between the homophones its and it's, they're, there, and their, and you're, and your.  There will be a test on Thursday of this week over unit 6 Pronouns.  There are many lessons at the back of the chapter for the students to use as practice.
