News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room May 18-22

Important Dates:

Math-This week in math, the students will use the concept of angle measurement to classify angles as acute, obtuse, or right angles.  They will also use protractors to measure and draw angles to the nearest degree.

Spelling- The students will be working with words that have unusual spellings.  They will be responsible for pages 213-215 in their spelling volume 2 book.  If they passed their pretest, they will have an alternate list of words and activities.

Language Arts- The students will close read Love That Dog a second time.  They will add to the comparison chart of how Jack's feelings toward poetry has changed from the beginning of the story to the end.  They will compare the book Love That Dog to the poem Love That Boy by Walter Dean Myers.

They will work on their poetry books. The poems they will focus on are: Five Sense Poem, Concrete Poem, Cinquains,  Color Poem and Five W Poem.   They will be expected to complete the poems for homework if they do not finish  it during the time in class.

Science-We will begin a unit on Making and Using Electricity.  The students will learn and investigate the 4 ways to light a light bulb using a battery, wire and light bulb.

Social Studies-The students will identify the largest system of mountains in the U.S.  They will compare and contrast mountain ranges of the West and identify mountain range in the West and where they are located. They will compare geysers to volcanoes.
