News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room - May 26-May 29

May 25 - No School Memorial Day
Tuesday, May 26-All library books are due back to the IMC.  I have asked the students to check at home to see if they have any of our classroom library books at their house.  They should have my name or Mrs. Krezel's name on the inside cover. Thank you.
June 2 - Pizza Party- Congratulations! Our class won the Box Top pizza party.  Pizza will be provided during lunch on that day.
June 5 - Bowling in P.M.
June 8 - Field Day and Picnic
June 9 - Last Day of School 11:00 dismissal


Math - This week in math the students will solve problems with Angles.  There will be a quiz on Wednesday  over lessons 3-7.  The students will classify triangles based on angle measure and describe triangles using their attributes. They will also classify quadrilaterals.

Spelling- This week the students will work with words that have silent consonants.  They will be responsible for pages 228-230 unless they pass the pretest.  Then they will have an alternate list and activities.  Test Friday.

Language Arts- This week our focus will be on the journey to Ellis Island.  We will close read excerpts from the book Journey to Ellis Island: How My Father Came to America.  They will discuss and share their response to What is the American Dream? The students will study the vocabulary, text structure, and answer text-dependent questions.  They will compare this reading to the Book, If Your Name Was Changed on Ellis Island.

We will continue our work with adverbs.

The students should be finished with their poetry books.  I will be grading them starting on Tuesday, so they do have time to check them over to be sure they have followed the rules of each poem from their poetry packet and that they have used their Rubric as a quide.

Social Studies- We will continue our study of the West.  The students have chosen a National Park in the West.  They will do the research on their park, and they will create a Glogster to share their findings.

Science- This week the students will  continue their study electricity.  They will explain static and current electricity.  They will understand how electricity moves in circuits.
