News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room June

June 1 - Resource Day-Classroom party earned for good behavior. Hotdogs and food from the West Region will be served with a little Hawaiian flair.
June 2 - Pizza Party- Congratulations! Our class won the Box Top pizza party.  Pizza will be provided during lunch on that day.
June 5 - Bowling in P.M.
June 8 - Field Day and Picnic
June 9 - Last Day of School 11:00 dismissal

Math- There will be a math test on Wednesday of this week over chapter 14-Geometry.  The students should study the materials in their math folder. They may finish any unfinished pages from their workbook as extra practice as well.

Spelling- This week will be a review unit.  The students will be assigned pages 247-249- Volume 2. The test on Friday will be optional.  The students can let me know if they would like to take the test or not.

Language Arts- This week the students will read articles about immigration to the US today.  They will work in groups to gather information from the articles and then share what they learned with the class.  They will have a debate on whether or not  immigrants should be allowed to freely come to America.  We will begin a new cycle of  our Journeys - Journeys within America.  American history is full of exciting journeys of exploration.  Many settlers set out for new lands in the west towards a better life. Students will learn about the communication and collaboration and conflicts of those who journeyed across America.

There will be a test on Adverbs and Prepositions, unit 7 on Thursday of this week.  The students will have homework to help them review for this test.

Science- The students will compare the effects of a magnet and an electric current on a compass. They will compare the properties of magnets with those of electromagnets and recognize the usefulness of magnets, electromagnets, generators and motors.

Social Studies - The students will continue to study the West region this week.  They will share their National Park Glogster with the class.
