The students will also use their understanding of prefixes and suffixes to determine the root word and meaning. They will also determine the meaning of compound words by looking at the meaning of each part of the word.

English The students will continue to work on their writing skills as they practice writing responses to passages that they read.

Science This week in science we will experiment and discover whether liquids can conduct electricity. The students will also use symbols to make diagrams to show how parts of a circuit are connected using symbols. They will also make circuits which have more than one battery and more than one bulb.

Social Studies "Oh beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain..." Can you guess the region we will be studying next? If you said the Midwest, you were correct.

To think about and know.... What are the Great Lakes and how were they formed? What are the names of the five Great Lakes? How do the Great Lakes connect the Midwest with the rest of the world?

We would love for you to bring in any information, artifacts, pictures, etc. about the landscape and or climate of Midwest Region.

Math As you know our test on chapter 11 has been scheduled for Tuesday of this week. This is a difficult test, because it covers so many new concepts. To help review, go over the problems solving sections throughout the chapter and review lessons at the back of the chapter. Don't forget they should be be able to figure out the circumference, radius, or diameter of a circle if they are given just one of those dimensions.

We will begin a unit on multiplication by one digit numbers. We will begin with multiplying by multiples of 10, 100, and 1000.

Timed tests on Friday will be on division facts. We will begin with the 2's.
