News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room January 25th - January 29th


Monday, Jan. 25 - We will have our Goo, Glob, and Guts in school field trip.

Jan. 27- 4th grade Spelling Bee.  Congratulations to our classroom Spelling B winners: First place Grace Rerucha and runner-up Marko Paljetek.  They will represent our classroom in the 4th grade Spelling B.

Math - This week the students will be studying the relationships between hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, and millions.  They will understand different methods for adding multiple digits. They will use the standard algorithm to solve multi - digit addition story problems.

Spelling - This week in spelling the students will be working with more words that have the Vowel, Consonant, Consonant, Vowel (VCCV) pattern.  They will be responsible for workbook pages 91-93 in Volume 2.  There will be a test on Friday.

Reading - The students will work on their Profiles in Courage Flipbook.  They should have finished their research of their hero, and this week they will put together their book.  They will be reading their individual books and completing a project to go with them.

We will begin our new unit Journeys.  The students will brainstorm what it means to go on a journey.  We will read a story written by Allen Say, called Grandfather's Journey.

English- In English this week, the students will write the final of their hero essay.  They will also practice using formal and informal language in their writing.

Social Studies- The students will finish and share their Southeast Scrapbooks.

Science- We will begin a new unit on Adaptations.  The students will explore how the bodies and behaviors of animals help them meet their needs
