News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room Jan. 11-15

The Six Flags Reading sheet is due on February first for those students who are participating.  

Tuesday. Jan. 12 - Reading MAP Testing
Wednesday, Jan. 13 - Math MAP Testing
Friday, Jan. 15- Early dismissal

Math- The students will continue to investigate the relationships between fractions and decimals by modeling various fractions, including fifths, with base ten area pieces and then naming them as decimals.  They will order fractions and decimals on a number line.  A unit 3 post assessment is planned for Wednesday, January 20th. 

Spelling- This week the students will work with words that have the Vowel Consonant Consonant Vowel patterns (VCCV).  They will understand that dividing words into syllables will help them to spell it.

Reading- The students will continue to close read the story of Lou Gehrig. They will answer text dependent questions. They will also work on vocabulary for the story.  There will be a vocabulary and comprehension test on Lou Gehrig on Friday, Jan. 15.    The students can bring home their books to help them review the story.

English- We will continue to work on explanatory writing this week.   The students will write about a person in their life whom they see as a hero.  This is a person in their personal life that they know a lot about.

Social Studies- The students will learn about the Native Americans - The Cherokee, who lived in the Southeast Region.  They will describe how the Cherokee lived before the Europeans came to North America and understand how their life changed once the Europeans came.
