Invention Convention:  Information about our Invention Convention will be going home on Monday of  this week.   There is a calendar of when things are to be turned in on the back of the letter.  The students will work on their contracts on Tuesday and Wednesday and have it signed by a parent to be sure this is an invention that can be done. It will be due on Thursday.  I will go over their contracts with them and give them an approval so they may begin working on their invention right away.

Math - This week the students will add, subtract, fractions and mixed fractions.  They will multiply fractions and they will also learn to simplify all their answers.

Spelling- The students will be working with Vowel Consonant Vowel (VCV)  spelling patterns this week.  They will be responsible for pages 175-177 in their workbook.  If they pass out of the pretest, they will work on alternate activities with an alternate list.

English- The students will be working with figurative language and adjectives this week.  They will study idioms, hyperbole, metaphors, similes, irony, and personification. They will use the figurative language to describe their favorite "Hot Spot".  Where is their favorite place to go in the summer?  But don't let them tell anyone because we want to keep it a secret so others will have to guess where it is based on their description.

Reading - The students will continue to read The Miraculous Adventures of Edward Tulane. They will understand the meaning of the word persevere as it relates to the story and a poem entitled Try, Try Again.  They will describe a time when they have had to persevere and how they handled it.
Science - The students will be working on their human body slide show this week.  They should be ready to share it by Wednesday of this week.
