Spelling -This week the students will work with words that have prefixes and suffixes.  They will be responsible for workbook pages 109-111. If they pass out of their pretest, they will have an alternate list of words and activities.

Math -  The students will write mixed numbers and improper fractions.  We will review the skills that they have been working on throughout this chapter.  There are many new skills in this fraction unit, so any extra help you can give our child in reviewing these skills will help them a lot.   This week in math a test is planned for Wednesday, March 18 over Fractions chapter 8.

English - There will be an English test over adjectives, unit 4 on Tuesday of this week.  The students will have homework to help them review.  They can use the lessons at the end of the chapter to help them practice, and they can do the proofreading activity in Google Classroom.

Reading- The students will continue to read The Miraculous Adventures of Edward Tulane.  They will understand how Edward is beginning to change on the inside as we discuss the reactions and emotions he experiences.  They will understand what it means to persevere and write about a time they have had to persevere and how they handled it.  We will also read a poem Try, Try, Again and discuss how the word persevere relates to the poem.

Science-The students will work on a Human body project.  They will work with one or two other people to research a body system.  They will follow a rubric to create a slide show with their research.

A test is planned for Friday,  March 20, over the Body Systems.  The students should study the main vocabulary and concepts from the book, and use all the notes in their binder.

They should know:
the different kinds of joints and muscles
understand how muscles  work to move bones
understand the steps in digestion
understand the different systems and main parts in them
understand and be able to explain what happens if you fall and scrape your knee
know the different jobs of the bones
understand and be able to explain  how messages are carried from the brain throughout your body.
