News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room January 24-28th

Things to Remember:
Tuesday,January 25 - District Spelling B at 10:00
Monday, February 14 - Valentine's Day Party will begin at 1:30. Students may bring in valentines, but they should be sure to bring for everyone in the class.
Monday, February 21 - No school - President's Day

Math - The students will use line plots to create data. They will use data to create tally charts and line plots. We will have a test covering the skills in chapter 7 on Friday of this week.
Please help your child study by using the reviews in the chapter. They should bring their book home to use throughout the week.

Spelling - The pattern to study is the vowel consonant consonat vowel pattern. Workbook pages 59-61 or 3 activities for those who passed out of the pretest will be assigned for the week and due on Friday. There will be a test on Friday.

Reading - The reading skill that we will work on this week is the identification of characters, setting, and plot. Students will fill out story structure maps as they read fiction to help them organize their thoughts and identify the main characters, setting, and plot.

English - This week in English we will begin a unit on verbs. The students will identify and use action verbs in sentences. They will identify the main verb and helping verb in a sentence.

Science - The students will learn about the muscular system this week and understand the work that muscles do. They will learn about three types of muscles and their jobs. There will be a test covering The Human Body on Thursday of this week- Chapter 4.

The students should study:
All vocabulary
All sheets in their binders
All main idea concepts in the text.
Understand the different kinds of joints in your body
Understand the three kinds of muscles and their jobs
Understand how muscles move
Understand the steps of the circulatory and digestive systems
Be able to explain the flow of blood and how it moves from heart to lungs- know the role of the arteries, capillaries and veins. Use diagram on page 174 to help.

Social Studies This week in social studies the students will read and interpret information from line graphs. They will learn about The Badlands of South Dakota and how they were formed. They will describe the climate and landscape of the Badlands 67 million years ago and understand how the climate has changed.
