News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room Jan. 3-6

Math-This week the students will be studying the relationships between hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, and millions.  They will understand different methods for adding multiple digits. They will use the standard algorithm to solve multi - digit addition story problems.

Spelling- The students will be working with words that have the silent g sound.  They will also understand similes used as figurative language.

Reading-We will begin a unit on mythology.  The students will read a passage which will help them to understand what mythology is.  They will then read a story about Hercules, and answer questions based on the story.  They will begin a project on the 12 labors of Hercules.

Social Studies -The students will learn about the Native Americans - The Cherokee, who lived in the Southeast Region.  They will describe how the Cherokee lived before the Europeans came to North America and understand how their life changed once the Europeans came.
