News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room Dec. 5-9

Dates to Remember:
Dec. 7- Early Dismissal 11:35- SIP Day
Tuesday, Dec. 13 - Whole going school to see A Christmas Carol at Drury Lane. Students should dress up for this special occasion.
Thursday, Dec. 15- Bowling in the A.M.
Dec. 16-Jan. 3 - Winter Vacation

Math- We will continue our work  with adding fractions to mixed numbers and multiplying a fraction by a whole number.  The students will also continue to work with equivalent fractions.  Decimals will be introduced and the students will investigate the relationships between tenths and hundredths.

Spelling- This week in spelling the students will work with words that are homographs. These are words that are spelling the same but have different meanings depending on the context of the sentence they are used in.  There will be a test on Friday of this week.

Reading/LA-There will be a comprehension assessment on Gloria Estefan on Thursday of this week.  The students should bring home their reading books to practice reading the story and become very familiar with it.

The students will understand the cause/effect relationships the author used in the text structure of Gloria Estefan.

The students will also work with modal auxiliaries, can, may & must.

Social Studies- This week the students will describe the climate of the Southeast. They will understand and examine hurricanes.  They will compare the function of lighthouses today to how they were used in past.
