News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room Dec. 12-16

Tuesday, Dec. 13 - Whole going school to see A Christmas Carol at Drury Lane. Students should dress up for this special occasion.  It is best to bring a lunch that day because there will be a long line, but hot lunch will be offered.
Thursday, Dec. 15- Bowling in the A.M.
Dec. 16-Jan. 3 - Winter Vacation


Math-There will be a math test over unit 3, fractions and decimals, on Friday of this week.  A pretest study guide will go home to help the students know what to focus on .

Spelling- No spelling this week.

Reading-We will begin a unit on mythology.  The students will read a passage which will help them to understand what mythology is.  They will then read a story about Hercules, and answer questions based on the story.  They will begin a project on the 12 labors of Hercules.

They will study the Latin and Greek roots.

Social Studies- There will be a social studies test over chapter 6 on Thursday of this week.
The students should:

Study all vocabulary and main ideas from the text.  They should study any sheets that are in their Social Studies folder.

They should know:
The different landforms in the Southeast and traits about them, barrier islands, wetlands, inner and outer-coastal plains, piedmont, Appalachian Mountains,
The difference between the inner and outer coastal plains
The climate of the Southeast
Understand the use of lighthouses in the past
Know the animals that live in the different areas of the Southeast
What is burned to run generators?
What products can come from a logging industry?
What is a hurricane and how can it be dangerous? Be able to explain 3 details about a hurricane and 3 ways in which it can be dangerous.
What are crops that grow well in the Southeast, but not very well in other regions of the U.S?
Where would you like to visit in the Southeast?  Be able to explain at least two good reasons why you would like to visit there.
