Math - In math this week, we will review elapsed time using time on the clock and calendar. The students will learn how to change units of time.  When helping them with this at home, please refer to their math packet because that will help you understand how we have been doing it in class.    The students may use their calculators on this skill.  They will also learn how to read a thermometer using degrees below zero.  There is a test scheduled for next Wednesday over chapter 6.

Spelling -  Our words for the week will include the final sound of long e; beauty, alley, monkey, etc.  The pretest will be given on Monday, and the final test on Friday.   The assigned workbook pages are from Volume 2, pages 29-31.  All spelling work should be in cursive.

Reading - We will be working on the reading strategy of identifying the problem and the solution.  Most stories involve a problem for the character to solve, and the solution to the problem may come after others have been tried.  The students will practice their reading strategies  as they read the book Earthquake Terror by Peg Kehret for the next few weeks.

English -   The students will learn how to write using singular and possessive nouns.  A test is planned for  Friday of this week over  Unit 2 nouns.  The students will bring homework home to help them review and practice the skills that they have learned throughout the chapter.
