The children brought home their Spelling B words on Tuesday. We will have our classroom Spelling B the week of January 21.  We will have one practice  and then a final spelling B, and the winner and runner-up will represent our class in the grade level Spelling B which will be the week of January 28th.

Math - There is a test scheduled for Wednesday of this week over chapter 6.  The students should review the skills that are in their math packet and the papers that they have brought home.  They should also bring their textbook home to help them study.  They will also have a division 4 fact test  on Friday.   They should be practicing these at home as well.

Spelling - This week in spelling the students will be working with words that have the /j/ and /s/ sounds.  They will have a test on Friday.  They will be responsible for workbook pages 44-46 unless they are in the Pretest Group, and then they will be responsible for the activities for the week.

English - This week in English, we will begin a unit on adjectives.  They will identify adjectives that tell what kind or how many, and they will identify the nouns they describe.  They will also practice elaborating sentences with adjectives.

Reading - The students will continue to read their books this week and apply the reading strategies they have learned since the beginning of the year. The comprehension skill that we will be focusing on next week is drawing conclusions. Good readers use details in a story to draw conclusions about characters and events.  Students may use graphic organizers to gather details from a story to draw conclusions.  Students will learn that it's possible to draw more than one conclusion from the same details.

The students will also practice writing summaries that are not too long, not too short, but just right in order to explain the main parts of a chapter.  They will use transition words to help them move through their summaries, so that it is not just a listing of events and it helps the reader understand the sequence of the story.

Science - This week our test over chapter 3 lessons 1-3 will be on Tuesday.
The students should know and understand:
all vocabulary
