News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room Feb.21- Feb. 25

Things to Remember:
February 21 -- President's Day -- No School

Math- In math this week the students will identify, classify, describe , and make solid figures.

Spelling- We will be working with words that have ed or ing ending. Workbook pages 252-254 will be due on Friday of this week.

Reading -In reading this week our continued target genre is poetry. The students will understand the elements of poetry, and they will work with figurative language such as simile, metaphor, personification, and idioms. A poetry project will be assigned and the students will be working on that in class and at home over the next couple of weeks. Along with poetry, the students will also be working on writing extended responses which will connect with their reading passages.

English - In English this week, The students will learn what an adverb is. They will learn that adverbs tell how, when, and where.

Social Studies - In social studies the students will learn why the Europeans came to the Midwest in the 1600's. They will identify roles of Louis Joliet and Jacques Marquette in the fur trade, and understand the role fur trading played in the development of towns in the Midwest.

Science- This week the students will compare different kinds of magnets. How are they alike and different? How are a magnet's magnetic force and magnetic field different?
