News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room Feb. 14 - 18

Spelling - The students will be working with compound words this week. The workbook pages that are assigned and due on Friday are pages 217-219. If students pass out of the pretest then they will work on three activities which are due on Friday.


Reading - In reading this week our target genre is poetry. The students will understand the elements of poetry, and they will work with figurative language such as simile, metaphor, personification, and idioms. A poetry project will be assigned and the students will be working on that in class and at home over the next couple of weeks. Along with poetry, the students will also be working on writing extended responses which will connect with their reading passages.

Math - This week in math the students will identify, classify and describe quadrilaterals.
They will also identify, draw and label parts of a circle. Along with that they will review similar and congruent figures.

English - This week in English the students will write the past tense of irregular verbs and be able to recognize the different forms of the verb be (am, is, are, was, were,). The test on verbs will be on Friday of this week.

Science - This week the students will learn about conductors and insulators. They will discover what happens when a current reaches a conductor and an insulator. They will also understand how a switch works to turn on and off a current.

Social Studies This week we will learn about the early culture of the Ojibwa and describe the ways Ojibwa culture has changed since the mid - 1600's. The Ojibwa have maintained important cultural traditions and have contributed to the culture of the Midwest.
