News From Mrs. Cavoto's Class January 26th-30th

Things to Remember:
Friday, February 6th, Movie Night

Spelling - The pattern the students are focusing on this week is the 1 + 1 + 1 pattern. (one vowel, one consonant, one vowel sound) Words with this pattern have to have their final consonant doubled before adding ing or ed.

English - This week we will continue our work with adjectives. The children are using adjectives and colorful language to write about their "Hot Spot". They will also learn how to use adjectives to compare two things using er, and more than two things using est (comparative and superlative forms. A test is planned for Wednesday, February 4th on adjectives.

Reading - This week the students will continue to work on summarizing skills. They will also study the elements of biographies and understand the cause and effects of story events.

Don't forget to turn in your form to get your free ticket to Great America. Many children have already read that many minutes, but the form needs to be filled in.

Science - This week in science the children will undersand how electricity and magnetism are related. They will compare the effects of a magnet and an electric current on a compass. They will also compare the properties of magnets with those of electromagnets.


Social Studies - This week the students will describe the landscape and climate of the Badlands 67 million years ago. They will understand how the climate in that area changed over time and how that effected the landscape of the area.

Math In math this week, the students will learn how to collect and organize information using a tally chart and table and then interpret their information. They will also learn to interpret and construct Venn Diagrams to sort, describe and clarify information. They should learn their 3 division facts this week.
