News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room Nov. 7-10

Dates to Remember:

Mon. & Tues. Nov. 7 & 8 - No School-Conferences and Institute Day

Math- We will review division strategies this week.   We will have a test over Unit 2 on Friday of this week.  The students should review the skills they have learned.  They can look in their binder at past check pts and workbook pages.  There will be a pretest sent home to help the students study as well. They may come in at recess time if they need help with anything.

Spelling- No spelling this week due to a shortened week.

Reading- This week we will continue our courage theme as they read a biography about Gloria Estefan. The students will understand why she is considered to be courageous and a hero to many people.  They will  also understand how to make judgments by using the facts from the story and their own beliefs to make and confirm opinions about characters and situations.

Science-The students will begin work on their invertebrate project.  The due date for this project has been changed to Wednesday, Nov.  16. There will be a science test on lesson 3  pgs. 72-81 on  Tuesday, Nov. 15.
They should study the vocabulary and the main ideas in their books.  They should also study the sheets in their science folder. They should study the chapter and vocabulary.
They should know:
how scientists classify animals
5 main classes of vertebrates, at least 2 characteristics of each, and be able to give 2 examples of animals from each class.
 5 main groups of invertebrates
largest group of invertebrates
largest group of arthropods
traits of an insect (3 body parts, 6 legs,head, thorax, abdomen)
