News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room Sept. 12-Sept. 16th

Math-The students will have a quiz on Tuesday of this week.  They should be able to use the strategies we have used in class to solve problems.  So they should be able to use a number line, area model, tile array, and ratio table.  See their binder for the work they have accomplished to help them review. The students will investigate factors and factor pairs for numbers between 1 and 100. They will multiply using the commutative property. They will determine whether a whole number between 1-100 is a prime or composite number.    Please help your child review their multiplication facts.  This will make it easier for them as we progress through the skills and concepts they need to know.  They can refer to their Math Classroom for the speed game to practice their facts.

Spelling:  This week in spelling the students will be working with words that have  ow, ou , au, and aw .  They will also work with antonyms.

Language Arts:  This week the students will compare and contrast two texts: the song Mighty Jackie the Home Run Queen and the poem Casey at the Bat.  They will also understand text dependent questions and work with a partner to practice writing their own text dependent questions. They will have test over Casey at the Bat and they should review to be sure they understand the poem.

They will also understand the complete subject includes all the words that tell whom or what the sentence is about and the complete predicate includes all the words that tell what the subject does or is.

Social Studies- The students will share their Niagara Falls research.  They will identify three mountain ranges in the Northeastern part of the Appalachian Mountains, and they will understand the different features of those ranges.
