News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room October 3-October 7

Dates to Remember:

Tuesday, October 4- Picture Day
Monday, October 10- No School Columbus Day

Math- There will be a unit 1 test on Tuesday of this week.   They have a pretest in their folder that shows the skills that will be tested.    They should also review the other papers in their binders.  If anyone is having trouble, they should come in for recess on Monday to get an extra review.  The students will then  explore linear measurement, mass, weight, and liquid volume. They will review the definitions and units of measure for each category.

Spelling -  Unit 6 - "Suffixes "-ed" and "-ing"
This week's spelling/vocabulary list will include words with the suffixes -ed and -ing.  We will study how adding these suffixes to base words changes their spelling. The final TEST is scheduled for Friday, 10/7.

Reading: We will continue the story Happy Birthday, Dr. King.  This text will help us work on answering text-dependent questions as well as understanding cause and effect relationships.  The students will also be doing vocabulary assignments in Google Classroom.

English: In English, we will focus on paragraph writing.  We will learn how to write good leads and adding  more details to make our writing more interesting.

We will continue to work with capitalization of names of people, pets, places and things


Social Studies - The students will choose a project to do for the Narragansett, the Native Americans from the Northeast region.  They will work on this project following a rubric. They will have an open book quiz over lesson one, Chapter 5. The Narragansett on Wednesday.  


Science:   We will begin the introduction chapter of "Getting Ready for Science".   Our focus this week will be on how tools are used for science, and safety in the lab. We will also begin learning the steps to the "Scientific Method".
