Mrs. Cavoto's Blog April 4-8

Mrs. Cushing, the PE teacher, is looking for some help with her  indoor tennis unit come April.  Parents can just come in for their child's 25 min. PE class or come for the grade level time.  Students need help getting the fundamentals down.  Students would benefit from having extra people to help toss balls to them so they can practice their skills.  Please let her know if you are available at all to help out.  Please email Mrs. Cushing at  tcushing@ccsd66.org  Thank you!

Reading-The students will compare and contrast Edward Tulane to the Velveteen Rabbit.  They will write a dialogue between the two using punctuation marks correctly.

English-They will understand the differences between adages, proverbs, and idioms. They will choose two proverbs that are meaningful them to share.   

Social Studies- A test is planned over the Ojibwa Culture  - Chapter 9 lesson on Thursday, April 3.  This will be open book.   The students should know: 
how they earned a living
what was used for transportation
how fur trade changed their culture
how they keep their heritage alive today
What is the life of the Ojibwa like today compared to what it was like long ago
how  they used their natural resources(water, trees (forests), soil)

Science-A test is planned for Friday,  April 8, over the Body Systems.  The students should study the main vocabulary and concepts from the book, and use all the notes in their binder.

They should know:
the different kinds of joints and muscles
understand how muscles  work to move bones
understand the steps in digestion
understand the different systems and main parts in them
understand and be able to explain what happens if you fall and scrape your knee
know the different jobs of the bones
understand and be able to explain  how messages are carried from the brain throughout your body.
