News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room May 22-May 27

Things to Remember:

Tues. 6/7 - Last day of school;dismissal @ 9:30

Don't forget about our 2 Mile Walk for Japan. I am excited that there are so many students and parents from class participating. I look forward to seeing everyone. Remember if you want to go, but haven't signed up, you can come and pay when you get here.


Math
- This week in math we will continue to work with fractions. The students will review how to find equivalent fractions and to reduce fractions to their lowest form. They will compare and order fractions with like denominators. The students should be prepared for a test over these skills in chapter 15 on Thursday of this week.


Spelling - This week the pattern to look for is the schwa sounds in the final part of the word. The students will have a pretest on Monday and final test on Friday. The pages to work on for the week are pages 237-239.

Reading - Next week, in addition to reviewing all reading strategies, students will be focusing on identifying the elements of fantasy and realism. Students will learn that fantasy involves events that could not happen in real life, and that realism involves events that could happen or that have happened in the past.

We will continue to read Charlotte's Web this week. There will be a vocab/comp. test on Thursday of this week. More information will come home with your child.

English There will be a test over pronouns on Wednesday of this week.

Science The students will learn about the rock cycle. They will learn about Sedentary and Metamorphic rocks this week. They will identify their own rocks.

Social Studies
The students will review the early culture of the Navajo, They will illustrate how they made a living, what their homes were like and how they were governed.
