Spelling - This week the pattern is letters with au are usually found at the beginning or in the middle of a word. The students will need to write their words 1 time each in cursive each night for homework. All tests will need to be done in cursive.

Reading - I found a great reading website. It will help your child find a book to read that is at his/her level and one that will be of interest. http://bookadventure.org/ You can also print out a quiz for that book. If your child brings the list into me I will see if I have that book in my library or if they have it in the school library.

The Read to Succeed sheet will be sent home on Thurs. Dec. 4. Your child should keep track of their reading hours on this new sheet instead of their reading folder. I will transfer those minutes to their reading folders for points. When the total number of minutes is complete please turn in the sheet and then they can start keeping track in their reading folders again.

This week the students will work on writing a response to A Christmas Carol. We will continue our work with story structure along with finding the main problem and solution of a story.

Math This week in math the students will find rules for number relationships and write equations for the rules.

The test over chapter 5 has been changed to Thursday, Dec. 11. Please review all the sheets in their math folder and their multiplication and division facts. They should also review the chapter and practice the end of chapter reviews to help them study.

They will be tested on their 7 times tables on Monday and their 8 times tables on Friday.

English- We will continue our work with verbs. The students will recognize correct present tense vebs for singular and plural subjects. They will also form the present and past tense of verbs including those ending with a single vowel and a consonant, and those ending with a consonant and y.

Science- The students will learn about Natural Selection (the process by which organisms with favorable traits are more likely to survive and produce offspring.) They will learn how change benefits an organism. They will also discuss the cycle of life. Why do we say that living things follow a cycle?

Social Studies - This week the students will locate the earliest European settlements in the Southeast. They will identify early leaders from the southest and describe their contributions to the United States.
