Math-The students will investigate factors and factor pairs for numbers between 1 and 100. They will multiply using the commutative property. They will determine whether a whole number between 1-100 is a prime or composite number.  The students will review the strategies they used to solve basic multiplication facts.  Please help your child review their multiplication facts.  This will make it easier for them as we progress through the skills and concepts they need to know.  They can refer to their Math Classroom for the speed game to practice their facts.

Spelling:  This week in spelling the students will be working with words that have the long and short sound of a and e.  They will be responsible for completing workbook pages 17-19 throughout the week.  There will be a test on Friday.  If the students pass the pretest on Monday with a 95% or better, they will be given an alternate set of words to study and an activity sheet which will have the new activities they will do instead of the workbook pages.  They will then be tested on their new words on Friday.

Language Arts:  This week the students will compare and contrast two texts: the song Mighty Jackie the Homerun Queen and the poem Casey at the Bat.  They will also understand text dependent questions and work with a partner to practice writing their own text dependent questions.

Writing: The students will write a paragraph focusing on the Main idea stated in a topic sentence and a closing which is stated in a different way at the end of the paragraph.  They will include details in the paragraph which talk about the main idea.  Indenting the paragraph, using capital letters, end marks and writing complete sentences will also be assessed.
