Science - Ask your child if they can tell you how the nutrients from the food they eat gets into their body's cells.  Answer:  Chewing breaks food into pieces.  Saliva softens it. Food passes through the esophagus to the stomach, where it is squeezed and mixed with digestive juices.  The liquid then passes into the small intestine.  Nutrients move from the small intestine  into capillaries.  The blood delivers nutrients to the body's cells.
