Math- The students will be able to finish their tests on Monday.  I sent home a review sheet so that they can review the skills.  We will write an extended response, and begin chapter 6 on Time and Temperature.  It would help your child to practice telling time using both a digital and an analog clock.  They will need to use a digital clock to tell time before and after the hour. They will also understand elapsed time on the clock and on the calendar.  This is knowing how much time has passed from the beginning to the end of an activity.

Reading - This week we will continue to work on organizing and classifying skills as we read our the stories in our anthology.  They will also work on dictionary skills.  The students will be assessed on the skills we have been learning over the last couple of weeks.

English - The students are finishing up their descriptive essays on their Southeast Animals.  They have also been writing expository essays on special traditions they have during the month of December. This week we will begin a unit on nouns.  They will be able to identify nouns and proper nouns in a sentence.

Science We will begin a unit on Adaptations.  The students will discover how the bodies of animals help them meet their needs.  They will understand the basic needs of all animals, and they will explain how adaptations help living things meet their needs.

Social Studies -    The students will learn about the people who helped shape the Southeast beginning with the Cherokee Native Americans.  We will be learning about their culture and discovering how their life changed after the Europeans arrived. This week we will have our Southeast Resource Day on Thursday. We will have a feast of citrus fruits, rice, peaches, and soybeans.
