News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room - Jan. 20-Jan. 23

Jan. 19 -No School Martin Luther King B-Day
Jan. 23  - Mid Terrn of  2 Trimester
Jan. 30 - Read to Succeed Great America sheets are due



Math - This week in math we will continue to work with long division and division with remainders.  This is very difficult for the students as many are just learning this for the first time.  Any extra help that you can give your child will be greatly appreciated.  There will be a lesson 1-6 review over chapter 6 on Thursday of this week and a division 7 & 8 fact test on Friday.

Spelling- This week in spelling the students will be working with words that have the sounds of /j/ and /s/. They will be responsible for pages 44-46 in their spelling books volume 2.  There will be a test on Friday.

Reading - In reading this week, The Profile in Courage project  is due on Tuesday, Jan. 20. I will be conferencing with them and they will then present their projects either on Thursday or Friday.  
English-The students will be typing the final copies of their hero essays this week.  They will understand that a verb is the action in the sentence and be able to identify verbs in sentences.  They will understand the difference between a main verb and a helping verb.

Science-In science this week, the students will understand how the behaviors of animals will help them meet their basic needs.  They will understand the difference between learned behaviors and instincts and be able to identify the different behaviors.

Social Studies-The students will complete an activity which will help them to understand the landscape of the Badlands.  They will understand the climate of the Badlands and be able to explain how and why it changed over the years.  A social studies test is planned for January 28 over Chapter 8 Water and Land of the Midwest.
