News from Mrs. Cavoto's Room January 27-January 31

February 3 - Six Flags Read to Succeed sheets are due.

Math - In math this week there will be a quiz over lessons 1-6 chapter 6 on Tuesday.  The students should practice their long division.  They should look back at the completed pages in their binder to see the skills we have covered.
  They can bring home their book and complete any of the unfinished pages in those lessons to practice as well.

Spelling - This week the students will be spelling words with the VCCV (vowel, consonant, consonant,vowel) pattern.  They will complete pages 59-61 in their workbooks or activities if they passed their pretest.  There will be a test on Friday.

Reading- We will continue to work with the problem solution text structure as the students read non-fiction articles. We will work with vocabulary development using synonyms and antonyms.  The students will use dictionary.com to help them find the meanings of vocabulary words.

English-We will continue to work on our Southeast animal descriptive paragraphs.  The students will use their research and knowledge of adjectives, figurative language and imagery as they write their paragraphs.

Science- Their will be a test on Friday of this week over chapter 3 Adaptations.  The students should study the lesson reviews and all the vocabulary from the chapter.  They should know:
how plants meet their need for food
learned behaviors and examples
instincts and examples of
explain several animal adaptations and how they are used
examples of living fossils, extinct animals and plants - use book for examples
the life cycle of a tree and why each step is important - see picture in folder
how  fossils help scientists learn about animals
animal behaviors that help them meet their basic needs
what happens during hibernation

Social Studies - The students will identify two causes of the Civil War.  They will explain the effects of the Civil War on the Southeast.
