Math The students will understand that perimeter is the distance around an object, and that area is the number of square units needed to cover a surface. The students will also practice writing explanations to their problem solving.

There will be a quiz over these concepts along with writing an explanation on Thursday of this week.

Spelling - The students will work with words that have prefixes and suffixes this week. They will be responsible for doing workbook pages 109-111. There will be a test on Friday of this week.

English - The students will continue to work on their extended responses during this time.
They will be graded on their content and their conventions (capital letters and end marks).

Reading - We will be using the predict/infer strategy, as well as cause and effect. Thinking about story events and personal knowledge helps readers predict likely events. With cause and effect, students will focus on why story events happen and what happens as a result.

They will review genres of literature- adventures, fables, folktales, historical fiction, mystery, myth, science fiction.

Science
- This week the students will focus on how electricity and magnetism are related. They will investigate how electricity makes a magnet. They will compare the effects of a magnet and an electric current on a compass.

Social Studies - We will travel to the Southwest Region this week. The students will make Southwest maps and take a quiz on Thursday over the states and water areas in the Southwest on Thursday of this week.
